How it Works

My rates are: $25.00 per half hour lesson if paying by check or $20.00 per half hour lesson if paying with cash. (That works out to $37.50 / $30.00 for 45 minute lessons; $50 / $40 for hour-long lessons).  Most children can only handle a 30 minute lesson.

My teaching area is set up with a big sofa for parents to sit on during the lessons, and a table where siblings can do homework. I do have a dog, but he is confined to non-teaching areas during lessons. I do NOT have a cat. I do not allow students under 12 to come to lessons unsupervised.  A parent, designated adult, or older sibling must accompany them.  Students over the age of 12 – well, that’s negotiable.  Often, a piano teacher is the first adult outside the family to have a relationship with a child, and that is an enormous responsibility which I take very seriously.  Having a parent sit on the sofa during the lesson has enormous benefits for everyone.  For one thing, children really value being praised in the presence of their parents!

THE FINE PRINT:

Piano students must have either a piano or a keyboard with standard sized keys at home.  They come for a lesson once a week at a regular time.  This regular time slot can change semester to semester as students sign up for other after-school activities.  Students may cancel their lessons at any time, but if someone cancels more than they show up, they run the risk of losing their time slot to someone with better attendance.
